Rebecca Onion is a freelance writer and a graduate student in the American Studies department at the University of Texas, Austin, working on a dissertation which is loosely about the formation of environmental ethics in the early twentieth century. She has never had a driver's license, and while she likes to say that she is conscientiously objecting to global warming, in reality, she just couldn't pass the road test. She has written for Slate, the New Republic's website, YM, Cosmopolitan, Wiretap, Backpacker, and a motley crew of other magazines and websites. Her non-Green Daily writings can be found at www.rebeccaonion.com.
