5. Light bulbs
While most cities won't accept traditional light bulbs at recycling centers, you can increase your home's energy efficiency by using compact fluorescent light bulbs instead. The additional benefit of CFLs is that they can be recycled. In fact, because CFLs contain a small amount of mercury, it's important to keep your CFLs out of landfills by disposing of them properly.
