Threatened: Sea Otter
Why we need them: They are a "keystone species," which means that they have a disproportionately large effect on their ecosystems. For instance, when they die, the sea urchins they normally eat begin to attach kelp forests in the sea. What makes them threatened: They become caught in fishermen's nets and drown. Their habitats could also be affected by oil drilling. (First time here? Learn more about Green Daily!)mikebaird on flickr
