Why we need them: In order to maintain the health of the Indian ecosystems, and to enhance eco-tourism, therefore enhancing India's local economies. Why they are endangered: Due to habitat loss through rivers being dammed and the expansion of crop and livestock agricultural areas, as well as being caught in fishermen's nets.
