Man, that Kiss -- always keeping the fans guessing.

The above video, all nine seconds of it, is part of a campaign by Planet Green called "Pass it On" in which people you may or may not have heard of share a tidbit with us, the masses, on what we can do to help the environment during the course of our daily non-celebrity lives.

Not all of Kiss is in the video. The ad features the Spaceman <strike>Ace Frehley</strike> Tommy Thayer and some words of wisdom that aren't, but should be "rock and roll all night and recycle every day." Seriously, if Kiss uses that I'll be rich (and then I'll be making videos for you, the masses).

Ours is a culture of celebrity so it's nice to see them getting involved, even for 9 seconds at a time. Thank you! Goodnight!

[via Science on TV]

Permalink | Email this | Comments

Organic Bar - Pure Nightlife

When Willie Nelson sang that the "nightlife ain't no good life" he obviously was unfamiliar with GustOrganics (another theory being that the song was written decades before GustOrganics was conceived -- we may never know for sure).

As Chris mentioned back in November, GustOrganics is the first organic-certified bar in America (and possibly the world!). It is also the only restaurant to be certified organic in New York, which is a bit surprising.

GustOrganics, according to Trend Hunter, only uses food that has been sourced locally, "supports fair trade practices and is certified by the Green Restaurant Association." That's the food stuff.

In the bar they "use only organic spirits, mixers, fruit, cocktails, beer, wine, and liquor."

That means that you most likely won't find your favorite brands there, but you'll find some darn good stuff -- and you may regret it less the next morning. The nightlife just became the good life.

Willie Nelson may have to change his lyrics.

[via Trend Hunter]

Permalink | Email this | Comments

Timberland Earthkeepers - A Step in the Right Direction

Filed under: Fashion, Movies, TV and Books, Green by the Numbers

Timberland has a pretty funny ad (above) for their new line of shoe called Earthkeepers. I think you can guess where this is going.

The book is illustrated by Mirna Kantarevic and has inspired a collection of earth-friendly toys from its drawings.

Gallery: <a href="http://".$GLOBALS["HTTP_HOST"]."/photos/when-santa-turned-green/">When Santa Turned Green
<a href="http://".$GLOBALS["HTTP_HOST"]."/photos/when-santa-turned-green/1243757/"><a href="http://".$GLOBALS["HTTP_HOST"]."/photos/when-santa-turned-green/1243756/"><a href="http://".$GLOBALS["HTTP_HOST"]."/photos/when-santa-turned-green/1243755/"><a href="http://".$GLOBALS["HTTP_HOST"]."/photos/when-santa-turned-green/1243754/"><a href="http://".$GLOBALS["HTTP_HOST"]."/photos/when-santa-turned-green/1243753/">

Yes, it's Christmas Eve and unless there is an FAO Shwarz on your block it may be too late for Santa to turn green for you by tomorrow morning. It's true! Are you wondering what to get that well-dressed, fun-loving environmentalist on your gift list, the one that has everything (albeit, a simplified everything in a sustainable, eco-friendly sort of way)?

How about a Green Eco t-shirt from T-ShirtOutlet.com ? It's fun and practical and kills two birds with one stone (figure of speech, no birds were hurt in the writing of this post). A t-shirt keeps them clothed and safe from the elements, helps to avoid public humiliation, and it promotes a message they (and hopefully you) can believe in. How's that for smart gift giving?

Gallery: <a href="http://".$GLOBALS["HTTP_HOST"]."/photos/green-eco-t-shirts/">Green Eco T-shirts
<a href="http://".$GLOBALS["HTTP_HOST"]."/photos/green-eco-t-shirts/1186176/"><a href="http://".$GLOBALS["HTTP_HOST"]."/photos/green-eco-t-shirts/1186175/"><a href="http://".$GLOBALS["HTTP_HOST"]."/photos/green-eco-t-shirts/1186174/"><a href="http://".$GLOBALS["HTTP_HOST"]."/photos/green-eco-t-shirts/1186173/"><a href="http://".$GLOBALS["HTTP_HOST"]."/photos/green-eco-t-shirts/1186172/">

The good people at T-ShirtOut.com have a bit of everything for everyone, but their line of green tees, printed on shirts from the American Apparel Sustainable Edition, are 100% USDA certified organic cotton which makes them right up our proverbial alley- the holiday one.

Permalink | Email this | Comments

Little Tikes is Rated Green

In a recent issue of Newsweek the magazine released some very interesting and insightful information from the presidential campaigns of both John McCain and Barack Obama, respectively. This newly released information was a collection of quotes and situations that Newsweek was privy to, but agreed not to publish until after the election.

In relation to Green Daily the most relevant quote came from Barack Obama regarding his views on solving global warming:
Continue reading Obama & the global warming collective

Permalink | Email this | Comments

50 Cent teams with Bette Midler - Really

We live in a time of strange bedfellows (see GOP ticket) and stranger duets (see Tony Bennett and Friends) but the recent teaming of hardcore rapper 50 Cent and gay icon Bette Midler may be the strangest yet.

Yes, their stories, talents and fans could not be any more different, but they do share some common ground- so they dug in it.
Continue reading 50 Cent teams with Bette Midler - Really

Permalink | Email this | Comments

Prop 2 passes, chickens rejoice

Filed under: Food, Local, News, Polit-eco, Activism

California had an interesting day at the ballots last week. They elected Barack Obama, that was a given, but it is the propositions that are generating the local (and national) talk.

Altering the constitution to outlaw same-sex marriages, Prop 8 is getting all of the headlines, and like a nasty kidney stone it is not passing quietly. It burns.

Prop 2, however, passed quickly and quietly. It was the issue regarding the treatment of animals raised for market and food production.
Continue reading Prop 2 passes, chickens rejoice

Permalink | Email this | Comments

Beaujolais Nouveau - Green and early

Filed under: Cars and Transportation, Food, Green by the Numbers
Typically Beaujolais Nouveau wines are released the Thursday prior to Thanksgiving, which means many bottles of the fruity French vino can be found scattered around the turkey covered and pie-laden countertops of whatever house I happen to be dining in.

This year the red wine is going green, thanks to Boisset and Georges Duboeuf.

First, a quick study: Beaujolais Nouveau is a fairly light red wine created from Gamay grapes.
I do believe in fairies. I do. I do.

Everyone's favorite pixie (all apologies to Frank Black) has joined forces with the U.S. Department of Energy to encourage kids (of all ages) to use energy with more efficiency.

Tinker Bell and her friends from Pixie Hollow are one with the planet and as such green is a way of life. Of course Tink's time in Pixie Hollow was over years ago and her current digs at Disneyland tend to use a bit more electricity than a meadow of grass and toadstools, but we believe that her heart is in the right place.

If you have kids (or too much free time) then check out this site for more info and interactive fun.

via The Disney Blog

Permalink | Email this | Comments

Tru Vodka- Drink it, plant it

Organic vodka is a good thing, let's just open with that on the table, or bar as the case may be.

Modern Spirits, known for their award-winning artisan vodkas (flavors include Black Truffle, Celery Peppercorn and Candied Ginger- I know, it's awesome) has introduced the first and only American spirit that is truly sustainable, Tru Organic Vodka.

From the press release, Tru is "made from 100% organic American wheat and infused with organic, natural ingredients. The packaging is made from completely recycled materials and the bottles are 25% more lightweight than other spirits bottles for greener shipping."

While Modern Spirits doesn't make the claim, there has been research conducted in my kitchen that suggests organic alcoholic beverages tend to result in a milder hangover- not that we endorse drinking to excess. Again.

Tru takes their eco-friendly mission seriously, and in addition to the steps described above they add one great, big leap. In partnership with Sustainable Harvest International they plant a tree for every bottle sold. Yes, every bottle.

Buy a forest, but drink responsibly.

Permalink | Email this | Comments

Solar charge your iPod in style

Filed under: Gadgets and Tech, Home, GreenTech, Alternative Energy
