Camelbak Offers to Replace Your Aluminum Sigg Clunker

Steve Wasik, CEO of Sigg, has been abject in his apologies, including two letters posted on the Sigg site. They're also offering to voluntarily exchange bottles with the BPA liner, although the consumer has to pay shipping costs.
Meanwhile, competitor Camelbak is looking pretty good. They offer several versions of BPA-free bottles, including a stainless steel option that just came out this summer. Talk about good timing!
They're capitalizing on the situation with a "Steel of a Deal" promotion. It's pretty clever -- the first 500 people to send in a picture of how they're recycling their "clunker", plus answer the question of why it's important to use a reusable bottle, will get a free CamelBak Better Bottle™ Stainless insulated water bottle.
The promotion, which began on September 3rd, goes through September 25th, although I'd be surprised if it takes that long for 500 industrious (and outraged) reusable bottle users to take Camelbak up on the offer.
It just goes to show that sometimes even the best of intentions aren't enough. But don't let this stop you from drinking tap water -- remember, it's still the smart choice, although at home you might want to use a glass. Just make sure it's lead-free!
