Being Green Just Got Even Cooler

You know how being "green" used to have a sort of, well ... wimpy reputation?

Hey, you know it's true. I don't make it up, I just report it!

Well, those days are over. Eco-friendly is so cool it's now badass. Ashley Braun and Katharine Wroth at Grist created a killer list of the 13 most badass greens, and there is not a wussy treehugger (not that there's anything wrong with that, we love treehuggers and Treehugger) to be seen!

The post has a poll for you to vote for your favorite Badass Green, but I seriously could not pick just one. My top picks include:

  • Homeboy Industries, a job-training program for former gang members in LA. One of the skills is solar panel installation which rocks because that means solar panels are so mainstream now that it's a reliable job! Also, their slogan is "Nothing Stops a Bullet Like a Job" -- let's see someone out-badass that.
  • Leilani Munter, aka Carbon Free Girl, is a vegetarian, race car driving chick. She's also a biologist and conservation activist. Oh, and if that wasn't enough, she is smoking hot gorgeous. Like, beautiful enough to be the star of a car and bikini calendar. Not that it matters, but I bet it helps get some of those old school car dudes to listen to her talk about alternative fuels!
  • Punk rock and vegan chef, Isa Chandra Moskowitz, is the co-creator of "The Post Punk Kitchen" and co-author of a vegan cupcake cookbook called "Vegan Cupcakes Take Over the World". She's totally cool and accessible, removing the intimidation/hassle factor from the idea of vegan recipes. Also, she has a straight-edge X on her hand in the Grist photo. Old school punk!

These are my favorites, but all 13 of the activists and groups on the list are inspiring and worth a look. Check it out and vote for your favorite!
