Nobody has mentioned how the factors of these new lightbulbs certainly puts a stop to the portion of disability world who have /prone to Seizure Activity and /or those who are highly sensitive to SENSORY issues/Defensiveness! These new flourescent bulbs are dangerous(Mercury filled) (we already have LEAD problems in states)to the population. Mercury is a carcinogen along environmental problems in the world.
What are we doing to our nation? WE cannot even dispose of glass mercury thermomenters in regular refuse or recycling system. What are we supposed to do with these new flourescent bulbs everyone is so bragging about that are actually toxic to the population? There is not ONE good thing about the new lightbulbs PERIOD. I am surprised PUBLIC HEALTH has not jumped on this one.

IF you get mercury into your system it hits your central nervous system and can reak havoc for life(like lead).
Are you willing to live with this let alone anybody that either has a newborn child and /or child whom is already growing up and continually exposing them to these toxins ? Think about it. What are we doing to our nation? What are we doing to ourselves? We are destroying our world around us....hope you all can live with that later on down the road. Anybody else ready/willing to jump on the bandwagon?
Get hold of your local legislatures/representatives, your local energy company, and epilepsy/seizure agency in your local town and let things rip. I know I am.

Kathy, a CFL bulb contains only 4-5 mg of mercury, about 1/20th the amount in a mercury thermometer. As long as you're careful cleaning it up (http://www.epa.gov/hg/spills/), you have nothing to worry about. Ventilate the room and let the Hg vapor disperse, clean it up and take the remains to a recycling center (e.g., Home Depot). The amount of Hg in the bulb is also far less than the amount of Hg emitted by a coal-fired power plant to power a single incandescent bulb over its lifetime.
