What is your basis for saying Responsible Policies for Animals' pointing out that humans are natural herbivores is not true. The "man the hunter" myth has long since been refuted, "hunter-gatherers" being much more recent than our species origins. In particular, see "The Comparative Anatomy of Eating" by Milton R. Mills, M.D., at www.eatveg.com/vegstuff/anatomy.htm.
Also, what is your special interest in wanting our universities to keep teaching that nonhuman animals cannot have rights and must be property of humans? Usually it's that people simply want to maintain the practices they're used to. It's not hard to change inhumane practices, and it turns out to be beneficial to the humans who do it.
I very much appreciate your discussing these matters. Very few people give them any thought at all. I think when we compare sources we'll find we're on common ground, even if our practices aren't entirely the same.

That's hardly an unbiased source you've listed. It also doesn't actually list its sources either. I found a similar article that concludes the opposite.

My problem is the all or nothing attitude. Not necessarily the targeting of this particular program, but the other quotes from the group. I never said I don't think animals have rights. I very much believe we should show as much respect as possible to them, and I would very much like courses that educate the industry on humane practices. Otherwise the meat industry, which isn't going away any time soon, is going to exist in a vacuum.

I also think it's hypocritical to feel guilty for killing animals to eat, but to go crazy on the plants. Why is one ok but the other is not? Because we can sympathize with an animal, we relate, animals are like us and we're oh so important. Whether or not we eat animals they're still something else's food.
