Baby Carrots and Bleach?
Have you ever let a bag of baby carrots sit in the fridge a little too long and ended up with that white haze over them and the carrots seem a bit dried out? I certainly have. And I've gone on to eat them and lived to tell the tale! That white haze is called white blush and in order to avoid it and keep carrots looking fresh and appealing to consumers for a longer period of time, the baby carrots are dipped in chilled water mixed with a little chlorine. Yep. They bleach the baby carrots. It's apparently not enough chlorine and not enough time to be harmful but, I think I'll stick with normal sized organic carrots in the future.
