Universal Cell Phone Chargers Coming Soon
When my husband and I travel together the amount of chargers and cords we require for cell phones, laptops, iPods and other devices gets a bit ridiculous. What if, at least our cell phones, could share the same charger, even if they weren't the same brand? That is apparently in the works and should be fully integrated by 2012. There will be a universal cell phone charger (or charger tip at least) and most phones will be set up to use it. This will be good for the environment in a major way by reducing lots of waste in the form of no longer needed chargers.
Think about it, every time you get a new phone, it comes with a wall charger. Frequently, you purchase a car charger and in some cases, maybe even an additional wall charger to keep at the office. Then, when you get a new phone, if it's a different brand, or a significantly newer model, you have to repeat that system. And most cell phone recycling programs only want the phone, not all the chargers that go with it.
