Denim quilts give old jeans new life

random blues quiltThere are lots of great uses for old denim jeans instead of making them into rags or donating them to Goodwill. You can make skirts and bags, potholders and especially, quilts. A good denim quilt will be sturdy and last for years at least and probably more like decades.

It doesn't have to be just denim either. Maybe you have some old jeans, as well as some khakis and corduroy pants. They would certainly all work together. Jeans and old flannel or plaid shirts would also look nice. If you have an old blanket, that can be used for the back if it is in good shape. If not, you can find one at the thrift store, use new (organic) fabric or some up with something else.

What about a denim baby quilt that will last the child for years even with being pulled along on every outing there is? There are so many options with denim. You can even repair your jeans to get a bit more wear from them if you aren't in need of any upcycling projects.

If you're ready, start cutting up those old jeans. You can make anything from simple squares to elaborate patterns depending on your sewing skills.
