The Perfect Countertop Compost Container
Until last week, my green shame was that I was the only person in San Francisco who didn't compost. I swear I had a decent defense/reason for it. My landlord is older (in his 90s), deaf, and English is his second (or possibly third) language.
It's hard enough to have a conversation with him about the weather, never mind something as "wacky and newfangled" as composting!
After making the request in writing, followed by a series of semi-awkward and annoying phone call where he laughed at me, a lot, and asked if my husband and I really have that much left over food, the green bin arrived last Friday.
Thrilled to finally be part of the cool crowd, I pulled out my sheer green Bio Bags and started to collect scraps and leftovers. But a small problem immediately presented itself: I don't have a counter top container to hold the scraps until I've collected enough to warrant a trip down two flights of stairs.
You can get a little green plastic tub from the garbage company, but it's totally ugly. I'm on a quest to find a pretty, functional, perfect countertop composting container. The options out there include ceramic, bamboo, and stainless steel, not to mention bad, bad plastic.
I'm still making up my mind, but the fruits of my research so far, in the gallery.
