UK Gladiators Will Kick Your Butt with a Lighter Carbon Footprint
The UK version of the hit show American Gladiators, simply titled Gladiators, was produced with 35% lower carbon emissions this season. Hooray! Just think, next time you're getting embarrassing amped-up for a ridiculous late night show featuring amateur athletes, you're not only watching a competition of strength and skill, but you're also watching the battle to save the planet unfold before your very eyes. OK, not really -- but it's a start. So, how did the show achieve this drastic reduction in greenhouse gas emissions? Did they eliminate the Eliminator? Unplug the Gladiators' treadmills? Or just fire all of their medical staff, because the show is just so incredibly safe? Apparently, the cuts were all made on the production side of things, in accordance with the Sky network's pledge to make its operations more eco-friendly. Sky is currently in the process of building a new production facility that will use 33% less energy than a typical building its size (for a TV studio, that's impressive), installing wind turbines on its facilities, and working with producers to limit waste in their various shows.
