Arizona Water Utility Taps Eco Goats to Clear Brush
Just in case you were wondering, Eco Goats is not a new kids cartoon series featuring a group of badass crime-fighting billy goats with superpowers and a penchant for environmental justice (although I think that would be awesome, call my agent if you're interested). In fact, these 'eco goats' are just completely normal goats that are dangerously close to being greenwashed by the Arizona Herdsman Eco Goats organization. Or are they? The Utilities Department in Mesa, AZ has hired on 80 of these new hairy employees to manage the prickly brush that's growing around their retention ponds. The first 10 of these eco goats got off the bus on January 5th at their new home -- a 30 acre patch of thick, nasty brush. Hopefully they brought their appetite. Greenwashing aside, these goats are a much more carbon-conscious way to control vegetation (if you can call thorny desert brush that) than breaking out the chainsaws and weed whackers. According to an official statement: the eco goats will "eat just about anything resembling a plant."
