SKOY Cloth Can Reduce or Replace Paper Towels
If you are taking part in the January challenge to go without paper towels, you might be looking for some alternatives. Of course you can use old T-shirts cut into rags, kitchen towels, cloths napkins and various other things. What if you really need to soak up a mess? Or scrub a counter? The SKOY cloth is one of my current favorite paper towel alternatives. It soaks up messes nicely, scrubs counters and rinses clean with no problem. And, the best part, when it wears out or your fancy turns to something else, you can compost it! It breaks down within 5 weeks.
I got mine from The Earth Friendly Shoppe which has other great products as well. You can also buy directly from SKOY.

I have a lot of dog mess to clean up off the floor... So, to do this challenge, would you need to use these, then scrape off what will come off in the trash, followed by either washing them separately in the washer or pre washing them by hand in the sink (I don't want dodo to mix in with my regular wash)? :) Not saying I don't agree with the challenge as there is a lot of waste going around, but I don't know how creating a new plant to make a new product that will likely not be around for all that long (as you said, people change what they prefer) is that much better than using a paper towel. I think moderation is a better tactic since paper towels can be composted as well.

Whenever I have dog messes to clean up, I use regular kitchen towels... or rather, grungy kitchen towels. If I have cleaned up pee I rinse the towel in the sink before throwing it in with other dirty kitchen towels. If I've cleaned up something else, I usually hold it in the toilet and flush to get the majority of the mess off, just as I would with a cloth diaper for a baby. It's not a perfect solution, but it works for me (and I have a new puppy so we definitely have dog messes!).
