Rare Tree Kangaroos Born in Nebraska

tree kangaroo at the lincoln zoo in nebraskaGood news from the Lincoln Zoo in Kansas City, (oops, thanks Jax!) Lincoln, Nebraska! Milla, a Matschie's tree kangaroo, gave birth to twins last month. This is exciting because only four of the rare and endangered tree kangaroos -- including these two --were born last year.

About 50 of the pint-sized marsupials live in zoos in the U.S.. Matschie's tree kangaroos are native to Papua New Guinea, but like so many other animals logging and mining has destroyed so much of their natural habitat that they're on the verge of extinction in the wild.

This is the first documented case of twins being born to Matschie's tree kangaroos. The Lincoln Zoo is a leaders in the effort to conserve the species, and they are taking the responsibility of raising the twins very seriously. If you want to help support their work, you can adopt a tree kangaroo here.
