This or That: Burn wood or corn for heat?

Whether it's because of increased environmental awareness, soaring energy prices, or a combination of both, many homeowners are looking to corn and wood burning stoves to heat their homes. But which is better for the planet?
The answer to that really just depends on where you live, because although there are differences between burning wood pellets and burning corn pellets they're both sustainable and (all things considered) fairly affordable as long as you go with the option that's most readily available in your area. Differences between the two include:
- Wood leaves ashes behind while corn leaves "clinkers"
- Corn is easier to grow yourself (if you have the room) but wood is easier to store
- Both wood pellet and corn burning stoves require some electricity and regular maintenance to keep them running efficiently
