Motorola Launches the Planet's First Carbon Neutral Phone

Motorola Renew W233AT&T might have scored an exclusive deal with the iPhone, but it's T-Mobile customers will get the first crack at what's being called "the world's first carbon neutral phone." As far as I know, the Renew W233 is the leader of the pack. With a pretty boring standard set of features, it's not the awesome capabilities of this phone that are supposed to blow your hair back. Instead, it's the extremely light footprint of the Renew that's truly impressive.

For starters, the plastic housing is made from 100% recycled water bottles and is, of course 100% recyclable itself. Second, all energy used to produce the phone has been offset through a partnership with Carbonfund.org, aimed at renewable energy and reforestation. As far as packaging goes, the Renew comes in a recycled cardboard box, printed on with eco-friendly soy-based ink. Moto also promises a talk time of 9 hours, cutting down your phone's lifecycle energy consumption.

The Renew is slated to hit stores early this year.
