eBay Refuses Used Cloth Diapers
When I found out I was pregnant, I invested in 55 pocket diapers in three sizes. It was a lot of money at the time but I figured that it would save money in the long run (and the landfill). I also was counting on making back some of that money by selling them used via eBay. When I bought the diapers, the used market was doing well, paying as much as 2/3 the original price. It came as a surprise to me the other day when I found out that eBay is not longer accepting used cloth diapers or covers for hygienic reasons. Their policy on used clothing reads, "(u)sed underwear including, but not limited to, boxer shorts, panties, briefs, athletic supporters and cloth diapers (including diaper covers) are not permitted."
So what's a mom to do with 55 painstakingly well cared for, used cloth diapers? GACK!
Fortunately there are some sites that have sprung up to pick up the slack.
- The auction site, myuseddiapers.com features in eBay-like setting to sell used diapers. However, there are few registered users (1755) which means fewer eyes looking at the posts.
- Diaper Swappers has more registered users (nearly 55,000) but it's convoluted and requires participation on discussion boards. Who has time for that?
- Attachment parenting website, AmityMama, has forums where people post used cloth diapers for sale.
- The Diaper Jungle has a thriving cloth diaper community that allows you to post diapers for sale.
- Finally, there is craigslist but that limits you to your general area.
