Facebook Holding Firm On Banning Breastfeeding Pictures

breastfeedingFacebook is holding firm on its policy regarding inappropriate photos, which has led to the removal of photos of nursing mothers. The hullabaloo began when some women noticed that photographs of themselves nursing their children were flagged for removal. Facebook has a policy that prohibits members from uploading any content deemed to be "obscene, pornographic or sexually explicit."

Stephanie Knapp Muir, one of the organizers of a Facebook group protesting the policy, says that the policy unfairly discriminates against women, as men are allowed to show bare chests on Facebook. Barry Schnitt, a spokesperson for Facebook, says that Facebook believes it has a consistent policy regarding photos and that they have no plans to change it.

The Facebook protest group can be found here, along with over 3,500 pictures of, you guessed it, mothers breastfeeding.

What do you think? Should Facebook allow images of nursing mothers?
