Blankets & Coats Re-Purposed for Pets
As a new year means many of us will clean out closets and drawers why not share your giveaways with a local pet shelter. Old blankets, coats and pillows that aren't worthy of Goodwill don't have to end up in the landfill. Shelters need cozy pieces for their inhabitants to rest on and you'll be doing something good for the planet at the same time. Be sure to call before you drop off your belongings to make sure they need your things but I'd bet some lonely pooch will love your re-purposed goods.

This is a wonderful way to give pets at shelters some "snuggly" comfort in shelters, because most shelters are often cold concrete floors and scary unfamiliar surroundings.
Another suggestion: Give all your old bath towels to vet clinics or shelters too. Often times sickly animals have "accidents" and vomiting, and their bedding needs changing often. Towels are a great way to address this issue. They can be washed and dried easily. And warm towels from the dryer are a very soothing way to relax a frightened animal or warm an animal up after being spayed/neutered, as the anesthesia & operation make them very cold afterwards. Plus towels are just the right size for the smaller cages animals are usually kept in, especially cat cages where there is little room to move around.

The critters also love old pillows to cozy up on. Poor things need a soft bed to keep them comfortable, too, and they don't even care that they're old or used.
