Donna Karan Concedes the Fur Fight to PETA
You hate to encourage them, but in a way I'm happy for PETA. Just before Christmas, Donna Karan announced that her 2009 line will be fur-free, and that she has no plans to use fur in the future. This is following -- and realistically, in response to -- PETA's aggressive campaign against Karan. Their tactics included a special website "DonnaKaranBunnyButcher.com" (it's down now) and having the wonderful Tim Gunn make a personal plea to her.
I have to say that PETA is being quite gracious about their "win", making a point of telling their activist nuts to stand down and stop picketing Donna Karan stores and crashing her runway shows.
However, this also means that they can redouble their efforts against Giorgio Armani, who "only uses the fur of rabbits killed for meat." PETA's perspective is that the killing is still cruel and brutal.
This round goes to PETA, but never underestimate the fashion passion of an Italian. Armani won't go down without a fight!
