More on the Clean Coal Unicorn (Which BTW Doesn't Exist)
This new ad from the Reality Coalition is pretty funny, mainly because it's so close to the ridiculous truth. Despite sound bites from politicians and coal industry lobbyists, there is no such thing as clean coal.
Sure, there are plenty of ideas for how to do it, and even more wishes that we could burn coal without releasing gobs of climate-change-causing CO2 into the atmosphere.
But we can't. And at this point it is criminally irresponsible to keep building coal plants with the promise that we'll "clean up later." As in, "later after we invent the technology to do it because it doesn't exist right now."
The Reality Coalition is a group of respected environmental leaders who want to stop the coal industry from propagating their lies with misleading coal campaigns. They're doing it with their own "Reality" Campaign, including this ad.
Check out the heavy hitter members of the Reality Coalition:
- League of Conservation Voters
- Natural Resources Defense Council
- National Wildlife Federation
- Sierra Club
- 1Sky
- Chesapeake Climate Action Network
- Earth Day Network
- Energy Action Coalition
- Environment America
And remember, we all love unicorns, but there's still no such thing as clean coal.
