Best Green Building Products of 2008

2008 is almost over and the green building industry grew steadily over the year. Like everything, it is subject to the housing slump but with people looking to cut energy costs, eco-conscious homes sell more quickly than conventional. This has led to more innovation in the market. Here are a few of Building Green's top ten green products of 2008.

  • Agilewaves Resource Monitor offers homeowners minute by minute monitoring of gas, water and electricity usage.I saw something similar to this when I toured Global Green's new home in New Orleans. The monitoring of the utilities was so specific that you could see which hours the toilet was flushed throughout the day.
  • SunCache is a low cost renewable energy system that heats water up on the roof where it waits to be used. It can hold up to fifty gallons for all of your hotwater needs.
  • Rainwater Hog caputres 51 gallons of rainwawater in tall, narrow tanks that can be stowed beneath a deck or against the wall. With a footprint of 1.3 sq. ft., it can hide just about anywhere.
