You Are More Than a Consumer, Buy Nothing Day 2008
In honor of Buy Nothing Day and thanks to Tracy at EcoStreet, see the video below from Bonfire of the Brands. It's all about how companies try to get us to buy more and more, and how guilty the fashion industry is in all of this. It's kind of a creepy video, but very well done. I especially enjoyed how it attacks the practice of calling people "consumers,'" one of my long-time pet peeves.

What a great pre-packaged 5 minute tutorial for the attention deficit population of today.
I would hope that this video would be able to get people to think about their actions.
Unfortunately, it will probably just make people go "oh, so that is how it is."
The real problem we have today is that no one thinks for themselves. Everyone wants someone else to think for them, to make their decisions, and to be safe in their daily life. No risk. No chance of failure. A nice cozy life from cradle to grave.
What we need is a little chaos. [disclaimer, I just watched Dark Knight last night]
