Rocket Man: Daredevil Tests the World's Most Wasteful Way to Cross a Canyon
Yesterday, daredevil Eric Scott became the first man to cross Colorado's 1,024ft deep Royal Gorge using nothing but a jet pack -- a major breakthrough for rocket pack enthusiasts worldwide. He didn't even wear a backup parachute. And while I have to admit that Eric crossing the gorge by jet pack is without a doubt the most awesome thing that I've seen all week, for the sake of the environment, I'm hoping that personal jet pack travel doesn't catch on.
The Royal Gorge is truly an awesome sight to behold, and I'm sure the view is great from a jet pack, but most people tend to enjoy the river by more eco-friendly means -- i.e. hiking or river rafting. Eric's jet pack burns through its two tanks of hydrogen peroxide based fuel in about 33 seconds. It also reaches speeds of 70mph. The stunt was sponsored by Go Fast Sports and Beverage, so pioneering new forms of green transportation was obviously not a priority.
Still, if a man can cross the Royal Gorge on a jet pack, think of how many other innovative modes of transportation are waiting just around the bend.

Don't most jet packs use hydrogen peroxide? Is that bad for the environment?
