Edison: Free Software Helps Cut Your PC's Power Use
If you're like me and spend about 12 hours a day glued to your laptop or desktop, I hate to tell you this, but you're probably an energy hog. Fortunately, a lot of manufacturers are starting to catch on, and they're finding new ways to slash the energy consumption of their products. In the meantime, Verdiem Software has a totally free program that can help reduce your data hog's energy use by up to 80%.The software is called Edison, and you can download it here. Just released this week, Edison isn't some kind of PC black magic, it's simply a program that provides users with a no-nonsense interface that gives them easy access to energy managing programs embedded deep in their operating systems -- like sleep mode. According to Allison Cornia VP of Verdiem's product management team:
"If we could get just 10 per cent of the world's one billion PCs using [the product] properly we could save 32 billion kilograms of CO2 a year. That's equivalent to taking half a million cars off the road."Feel like giving it a test drive? You can download Edison here.
