PETA Cooking Mama Parody is Gross
PETA has decided to go after those of us still interested in cooking a Thanksgiving turkey with a rather disgusting version of the Cooking Mama video game. In the original game, available for a variety of platforms, you do a variety of actions that cause you to "cook." In the PETA game, you cook, but in the most disgusting way possible I think. You have to do a variety of things to the turkey that those of us buying turkeys at the supermarket would never experience.
First you pull off the feathers, which results in much blood running down your arms and later you have to cut off the turkey's head and chop its neck into bits for the gravy. The blood may be animated but I still found it rather gross and off putting. This game is definitely not for children.
The game did not convince me to take the Pledge to go Veg as PETA hoped. Instead, it made me more annoyed with them for feeling the need to make the message so very unpalatable. I prefer facts to gore when making my decisions.

Which of the facts of this case do you prefer to imagination? I wonder if they are very different from each other. If you cannot stomach thinking that animals have a horrible end you have choices: You can toughen up, look away, stop participating, or choose to fight it. If you want to eat your turkey and make sure it has a decent end you have much fewer choices: You can purchase a happy, organically fed and free-running turkey and kill it yourself or find one that it certified humane raised and butchered.
The cartoon blood you see might be exaggerated, but the feelings you got in response are probably quite justified if it comes to fast-pace, cheap, industrial slaughter.

Out of sight out of mind, right? If you dislike gore so much, why do you still eat meat?

Chris and Kartsen, I understand that you think eating meat is wrong, and that you think it's terrible and bloody and inhumane, etc. Those are your beliefs, and arguing isn't going to do anything. But that's ALL they are: YOUR beliefs. Mine, and a lot of other people's beliefs, are completely different. But you don't see us attacking you guys like this, do you? What has EVER come from trying to shove your own beliefs down someone else's throat...? Oh, right, WAR. A whole load of WAR.
this game is disgusting and appalling, and not because of the gore and blood, but because of the message it's sending. Also the complete disrespect for those who choose to have a different lifestyle than your own. this flash game did nothing to make me feel remorse for the turkey, or any desire to curb my carnivore ways. All it did was leave me with a general feeling of revulsion for PETA itself.
I hope Nintendo sues your goddamn asses off.

I'd like to say, I did not write that it was right or okay to kill animals or that I approve of it. I wrote that I found the game gross and thought that if PETA wanted to convince ME of something they need to find a different alternative.
I am not a vegetarian but I have reduced the amount of meat that I do eat. I am slowly changing my eating habits and being more conscious of the choices that I make.
The in your face, gross out tactics of this particular PETA product do very little to make me want to change my ways honestly. I believe education goes much further than shock value in changing the way people think.
I appreciate everyone sharing their opinions on the subject though. That's what I was doing too.

I'm annoyed that PETA would go after a game which encourages people to cook in a fun way. We need more good cooks in this world.

PETA just can't seem to deal with the fact that people eat meat. I agree that the treatment of animals is very bad in most cases. But there are brands that offer cruelty-free meats. I think they go so far over the top for attention. I've seen their stuff- they aren't afraid to lose the message in all the torture porn they put out.
I'm a proud omnivore- I don't deny me body what it was built to use. And PETA is just going to have to get used to the fact that there are people like me all over- and we are not going to lie down.

Wow. Just wow, Peta. Turning a respectable children's game into a bloody gore-specked internet flash game just shows how silly you really are. I don't support horrible, torturous treatment of animals, so don't be quick to label, but I still eat meat. This is just sad.
Maybe you guys should eat some meat, it can help your brain function.
