California Ordered to Prepare for Rise in Sea Levels
California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger signed an executive order last week, ordering preparations to cope with rising sea levels due to global warming. Sea levels rose 7 inches during the 20th century in San Francisco, according to Schwarzenegger's executive order. The studies ordered should focus on how much more the sea could rise, and how the state should prepare and react. California has over 800 miles of coastline to consider.
California is considered a leader in the U.S. concerning the environment, with its own standards for car pollution and laws to cut carbon emissions. However, this doesn't mean the state can ignore the consequences of global warming in the meantime.
