Trump gets approval for controversial $2 billion golf development in Scotland
The Donald has received permission to build a huge golf complex on the northeast coast of Scotland where he's planning two golf courses, a luxury hotel, a bunch of villas and 500 homes. The plans for the complex, in typical ostentatious Trump style, will be huge -- its construction could upset a sensitive site and damage wildlife habitats. Environmental groups also opposed the plans because of potential damage to sand dunes classified as a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI).
The plans were previously rejected, on environmental grounds, by a local committee. The Scottish government, however, intervened and said that the massive project was too important to be dealt with at that local level and then granted planning permission citing the huge economic and social benefits to Trump's plans. The decision could also do with Trump's threats to move the project to Northern Ireland.
