Abu Dhabi gets into the film business and starts with environment
Abu Dhabi might just be the next Google Headquarters. First there was the Renewable Energy City that hoped to produce zero waste. Soon, there will be films that educate on the environment. While Indie film divisions are closing in the United States, at least one new venue is opening in the Middle East. The United Arab Emirates have launched a film and digital media subsidiary called imagenation abu dhabi. The film company plans to make about ten films a year for Arab and international audiences. One of its first partnerships is with National Geographic. According to imagenation abu dhabi the two companies will produce, "films that focus on people's relationship to the world, their environment and each other. The films will be budgeted between $5 million and $60 million."
Over the next five years they'll make between 10 and 15 films. The joint venture has a commitment so far of $100 million.
Mirror, mirror, on the wall, who's the biggest indie film company of them all?
