It's not the car that is on display for Mr. Young - it's the stage hybrid electric technology from John Goodwin. He has made Hummer H1,2,&3 conversions that get better mileage than Priuses (Prii?) running on biodiesel hybrid engines. Emissions are good too. What you don't see written in this article is that it is all technology that Detroit could implement tomorrow if they wanted to. They didn't understand it at first, but each of the big 3 have visited Mr. Goodwin's shop and have seen what he has done with their own diesel engines, reprogramming their computers, and supplimenting their drivetrains with electric motors. It's not terribly difficult (Mr. Goodwin has an 8th grade education). Do some homework and you'll see that this is a very viable approach to the x-prize because it addresses the 300# gorilla in the room, i.e. what do we do with the millions of cars already on the road? Retrofit. Reduce, reuse, recycle doesn't happen by building a billion more hybrids and scrapping perfectly good existing cars. It happens by not raping the planet of more resources just so that we can manufacture a bunch of matchbox cars that can't perform as well as an H3 with a hybrid biodiesel electric drivetrain.

Please answer this for me. I am kind of stupid about these things. Please tell me if they burned coal, natural gas or used a nuclear reactor to make the electricity to charge this car. That's about the only choice you have nowdays. Does the car have AC? Does it have a radio?
I did learn one thing in 4th grade science, it takes energy to make energy.

Hey Sig! Why do you think you owed money? If you read the previous comments you would have seen that this gentleman who developed some of the technology has an 8th grade education. I bet he walked, to the library, to a job, to make something of himself. Not waiting for someone to give it to him! Keep walking it will never happen for you!
