Make your own soap - from bacon grease!
I think a lot of people who are working to be more green are seeing the benefits to family even more than the benefits to the planet. At least, this is true at my house. We cook from scratch more, eat more veggies, have a garden, use more natural cleaning products, reuse and recycle when we can and on and on. All of these things are good for the planet, but they also help to improve our quality of life.
Making homemade soap is something I have been considering. It's one more area that we can reduce packaging, save money and gain control over what we come into contact with. Looking for recipe I found the craziest sounding thing (well to me at least) - making soap from bacon grease!
Something I would normally throw into the trash since I can't even compost it, can be turned into soap with minimal effort and extra ingredients.
Then I ran into the only issue with this cool idea. We don't really eat bacon at our house except for maybe once or twice a year.
What is the one crazy thing you've done in an effort to reuse something or save money?

Wild idea. I can't quite get past the thought that the soap would have some grease in it, however.

Reusing tin foil and plastic baggies. Usually it works out great but one time I was eating a pbj sandwich and I kept smelling fish. Well it was the baggie which had salmon in it before....just a bit grody.

A low cost, green eco friendly, healthy natural homemade liquid cleaner can be made from soapberry which grows on the Chinaberry tree and has been used for thousands of years. It works very effectively.
