MTV promotes public urination to save water

We've all heard the saying "if it's yellow, let it mellow. If it's brown, flush it down." Well, the latest ad in MTV's Switch campaign seems to encourage us to take water conservation a step further. The ad, targeted at European audiences, features a series of characters who -- how do I put this? -- upcycle their urine in a variety of public, yet productive ways -- thereby offsetting the need for water. Hilarious.

The minute-long spot, entitled "Slash," presents a couple of controversial peecycling ideas like: watering the garden, filling up a public fountain, and even washing the car (I can't really recommend urine as a cleaning agent).

Despite its ridiculous upcycling suggestions, the commercial is actually part of a very real MTV conservation campaign. The Switch campaign promotes the idea that simple changes to your daily routine -- in this case a more judicious flushing technique -- can have a larger impact on global climate change.

I love this ad. In fact, I laughed so hard that I almost wet myself -- but for some reason, I doubt it will be shown on networks here in the States.
