California tops the list of most energy-efficient states
One of the less flashier parts of getting green is getting efficient. The American Council for an Energy-Efficient Economy (ACEEE) is all about looking at doing more with less. And because we all love lists, they have given us the most efficient states in America based on energy-efficient policies, programs and practices.Who tops the list? The Golden State, California, got number one in the recently released survey. Right behind was Oregon, Connecticut, Vermont, and New York. Idaho was considered most improved.
To get high on the list, state governments had to use energy efficiency to grow their economies, remain energy secure, and do something about global warming.
More fun than looking at the winners is, of course, looking at the losers. The bottom of the list includes both North and South Dakota (third and fourth last, respectively) and Alabama in second-last place. And in very last place? Wyoming. The state scored zeros on a bunch of criteria on areas like transportation, building codes and financial incentives that promote efficiency.
