How many chemicals do you think you are exposed to?

chemical bottlesHere at Green Daily we write a lot about natural body care products, organic foods and clothing made from natural fibers. There is not a lot of hard and fast scientific evidence about the long-term effects of exposure to a lot of the chemicals we come into contact with on a daily basis but it seems good to avoid them.

Children, especially, absorb a lot from the environment around them. They hear what we say and repeat it at inopportune times and the littlest ones seem to explore the world with their mouths, chewing on every possible thing.

The LA times reports that a test of umbilical cords found traces of at least 300 chemicals in a newborn's body. Those are all from things Mom came in contact with before the baby even left the womb. A family in Oakland, CA had body burden testing done and found alarming rates of some chemicals in their children's bodies - much more than in the adults.

Until we know what all these chemicals can do over the long term, it seems even more prudent to stick with more natural products, avoiding things like plastics and chemicals whenever possible. It takes more time to research your options and purchases but it may prove worth it for you and your children's health.
