Whether you think the government spending $700 billion to bailout financial institutions is a good idea or a bad idea, there are some
nice little green perks as part of the bill that you may not have heard about.
- The Bicycle Commuter Act will give a $20 per month tax credit to employers of bicycling commuters to go towards adding infrastructure items like bike racks and lockers rooms. Hopefully some companies will use this to encourage two-wheeled commuting.
- The transportation and domestic fuel security provision will provide tax credits for owners of electric cars. This one has a limited time frame and will be applied in full to the first 250,000 electric cars purchased in the US and in reduced amounts after that.
- Production and investment tax credits for renewable energy were extended. This means you can get some tax credits for installing things like solar and wind power at your home or business.
