ELV hybird scooter: This hog gets 180 miles to the gallon
Whenever I sit down on a scooter, I can't help but to think back to that scene in Dumb and Dumber where Lloyd and Harry make the trip to Aspen on a scooter. Well, that hog got 70 miles to the gallon. Here's one that gets 180mpg: the VKM 50 from ELV Motors -- and it actually looks cool to boot. In this day and age, there are people who would give their right arm to get this kind of mileage. As it turns out, you don't need to do anything quite that extreme. The VKM 50 hybrid scooter apparently stole the show last week at September's West Coast Green -- that is, when it comes to two-wheelers. That's partly because of its mileage, partly because of its incredibly reasonable price: $2895. Unlike some of its all-electric siblings, the VKM 50 isn't limited by a battery's range. A feature that I think more than offsets its minor CO2 emissions. I mean, who wants to get stuck on the wrong side of town for 4 hours waiting for your scooter to recharge?
The only drawback that I see with the VKM 50 is that its 49cc engine has a top speed of 40mph. Still, that's better the Chysler's new NEV that tops out at 25mph, right?
