Send in your old, broken crayons to make new ones

Crazy Crayons
Anyone who has spent any time with small children will know about the crayon box (or bucket). After awhile, most of the crayons are broken, many lose their wrappers and none of them are sharp. It's hard to tell which colors are which and kids only grab easily recognizable colors.

If your crayon box has gotten to this point, Crazy Crayons might be the place for you. Founder LuAnn Foty is on a mission to recycle those old crayons kids don't want to use anymore. You can send your old crayons (or those from your school, daycare or church) and they are recycled into new, multi-colored molded crayons. You can get turtles, hearts, dinosaurs or seasonal varieties. All of them are really cool and they color in a nice, randomly colored pattern.

Not in a house that needs crayons? You can buy firestarters made from old crayon wrappers and wax. I tried some this past weekend on a camping trip and they worked really well. The combination of the paper and the wax coating make for a quick light, followed by a long, slow burn.

Will recycling crayons change the world? Maybe not but it's a lot of fun and a great way to introduce little ones to the idea of recycling in a way they can really relate to and enjoy.
