Chipotle greens its mega-burritos with green restaurant
When I first discovered Chipotle, I got hooked. I thought super-sized fajita burritos would be the end of me. Now, after going through painful withdrawals and a 12-step program, I've finally learned to use them responsibly. Well, if your carbon foodprint is suffering due to an addiction to eating 4 servings of beef wrapped in a deliciously huge tortilla -- there's hope for you yet. Chipotle is apparently greening up its act. Right now, the burrito slinger is in the process of opening a green restaurant in the town of Gurnee, Illinois -- just an hour north of Chicago. Some of the new restaurant's eco-highlights include: recycled building materials, a 6KW wind turbine, an Energy Star rated kitchen, and a rainwater collection system which will provide water for landscaping. The green Chipotle will also showcase green features like LED lighting and an interior constructed of recycled barn metal. Awesome.
When it's complete, Chipotle will seek a LEED Certification for the restaurant, which would put it in an elite class with Dunkin Donuts. Yeah, times are strange. Thanks for the tip Kate.
