Where we're going, we don't need petrol - All electric DeLorean on Ebay
As a result of watching Back to the Future over and over as a kid, I found it pretty reasonable to expect flying skateboards by the year 2010. Sadly, that doesn't seem to be the case. Instead, by 2010, it looks like we'll finally be getting drive electric cars -- but they won't have gull-wing doors or be built out of stainless steel. If you want a car that fits that bad-ass description, you'll have to get on Ebay. In what has got to be the most incredible tribute to Robert Zemeckis' Back to the Future trilogy ever, a group of eco-minded gearheads have outfitted a 1981 DeLorean DMC 12 with a WarP 9 electric motor and a trunk (and engine compartment) full of Deka Intimidator deep cell batteries. Just plug this baby into a 220 volt AC current for 2-3 hours and you've got enough juice for a 40 mile trip. That's every bit as far as the Chevy Volt goes before the gas engine kicks in.
Right now, the bidding is at $15,600 -- but it will most certainly go higher. The "buy it now" price is a nice round $100K, but get this -- the $100,000 includes the custom "flux capacitor." Well worth it. Interested? Check out this video demonstration.
