Elizabeth Hurley pigs out
Josh asked us a while ago if we would eat Elizabeth Hurley's meat as she first announced her interest in organic pig farming. Well, the day has finally come that you can purchase pork products under the Hurley Old Spot label -- that is if you live near her 100 acre estate in Cotswolds, England.Hurley raises Gloucestershire Old Spot pigs, a breed known for it's white body with black spots and drooping ears. The Old Spot is also referred to as the "orchard pig" as it is a good grazer and once fed on fallen fruit in the orchards. The Gloucestershire Old Spot is one of the oldest breeds of pigs in the world.
One local butcher says that Hurley's pigs are "excellent quality." Her farm is organic so I assume that the meat is as well. This, in edition to the Gloucestershire Old Spot pedigree, can demand a higher price for each pound of bacon or roast.
One funny side note is that for her wedding last year, Hurley asked that her guest give her livestock for her farm. So, not only would you be eating celebrity model pork if you can get your hands on a sausage but you could be three degrees away from the likes of Elton John.
