This is a well written review even though we personally do not agree with the "Green" emphisis being applied to the Holy Word of God. Nice work Christina.

Careful here.... First of all let me say that I have seen an advance copy of this and applaud it because it is the Bible which I believe is the word of God.

However, it's a bit of a stretch when we have yet another version of the Bible that has now been plastered as "green". Come on now, in the advanced copy I got, one of the "green" verses was Matthew 4:1 "Then Jesus was led by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted there by the devil." I assume that this verse was identified simply because it had the word "wilderness" in it.

This and other "green" verses as well as some of the contributors you list above make me think that this just might be a marketing ploy that is trying to leverage our current concern for the environment.

The Bible has a lot to say about Christ followers being stewards of the earth and caring for creation. However, plastering God's word with green soy based ink on recycled paper (all good things themselves) in this manner really cheapens the whole idea about caring for creation.

There's lot's of information on-line about organizations that are focused on Caring for Creation. I would encourage everyone to do a bit of research and see how some Christ followers are working through these issues. Don't be taken in by yet another marketing scheme.

Keep religion, spirituality, and other faith-based belief systems out of the environmental movement! We need more reason and rationality to tackle this problem, not less.

While I consider it each person's personal right to believe what they like (as long as they leave children alone and free to develop whichever direction they choose), I find it important for the environmental movement to rely on what has proven to be most(!) reliable: good science, critical peer-reviews, repeatably measurable evidence.

If we allow religion or spirituality to enter the public debate, which religion should we follow and HOW THE HECK do we discuss rationally which one it should be? If everyone is free to believe what they find most pleasing, nothing will change. The relevant facts for the environment are much harder to discover and accept than just by listening to a religious leader or reading an old book.
