Melamine milk scare in China grows

A health scare that started with baby formula has spread. Chinese officials now say melamine has been found in yogurt bars, and liquid milk.
Melamine is an industrial compound used to make plastics that contains nitrogen. It boosts the appearance of protein in food and is difficult to detect. Earlier this month several infants died and hundreds were sickened from baby formula that had been tainted with the compound. Earlier this year tainted dog food produced in China killed hundreds of dogs around the globe.
The New York Times reports that the dairy sections of most Chinese grocery stores are empty as a result of recalls. Starbucks in China has switched to soy milk. Mengniu and Yili are two of the country's biggest milk brands, nearly 10-percent of their milk products have been tainted.
Over 6,200 infants have been sickened by the tainted milk.
Chinese officials say they will punish those involved in the poisoning and force them to pay for people's medical bills. A larger problem for the country may be the lingering black eye scandals like this one may have on the nation's reputation and economy.

the only milk for baby are the mums milk all mums should breast feed thier child at less 6 month.all powder milks are acidic and toxins and will harm the baby immune system and causes all kinds off diaseses,there are many ways to feed your baby likes giving them brown rice powder with quino ,millet which are high in protein and harmless ,calcium can be obtain from many kinds of vegetables and nuts so why you must harm your child health with such milk powder.go for the natural way of life ,your food and your drinking water are your medicine.anybody need my help to overcome the milk problem please email me whong@yahoo.com

I'm a U.S. citizen and businessman from California, but living and doing business full time the past 4+ years in China and Hong Kong.
Our 2 year old son was a victim of the melamine milk here in China. Although he did not die he has ingested and passed huge quantities of the melamine during a 10 month period finally resulting in a kidney stones not just powdery urine.
The U.S. Embassy was great to find a "high standard" clinic near the Consulate for diagnosis, but what now?
The symptoms were amazingly varied and really could have been many things. Now we know and it was confirmed today at the clinic.
No one knows "what now". What will happen to him? What are treatments must he undergo? ...no one has tried to kill children before using melamine.
An entire generation of China's children will face kidney disease and cancer just so a few Chinese businessmen could have more money. ...this is China.
