This or That: Toilet paper or Bidet?

When I first heard this question I was pretty sure I knew the answer, toilet paper (recycled, of course) has to be greener than a bidet with all its water usage, right? Wrong. This article makes a pretty good argument for the bidet, actually, citing the water-intensive toilet paper-making process, packaging, and transportation as solid arguments supporting the bidet as the more eco-friendly option.
There's only one catch: no using T.P. to dry your damp bidet-ed backside! (Go with a towel or washcloth instead).

We tried to go one better and grew our own toilet paper (loofahs) and used a waterless composting toilet. Surprisingly the loofahs, dipped in warm water before use were very comfortable and clean and were dropped down the loo afterwards where they created nice little air pockets in the compost and helped it break down quicker. We live in a temperate rather than a subtropical climate now so will need to find a different plant to fill the same niche ... hmmm ( a bit of potty humour there).

A bidet is definitely an addition to your bathroom that you would not regret. I recently bought a low cost bidet from http://www.bidetinternational.com and I am very satisfied. Besides saving on toilet paper, you improve your personal health and well being. I recommend every household has at least one bidet.
