Eco-friendly handbags that literally give $5 back to the community
I found a way to feel a little less guilty about all of those unrecyclable potato chip bags I've caused to exist. Five Accessories is an online store that sells fair trade, eco-friendly accessories and donates five dollars from each handbag purchase, plus 15% of the sales of other products, to local artisan groups or charities. At first I thought five dollars was a little stingy, considering that some of the bags are fairly pricey, like the Multi-Colored Recycled Potato Chip Laptop Case, which goes for $120. But since they are a fair trade company, I'm going to give them the benefit of the doubt, and take it as read that they are paying the artisans for the bags, plus giving the community five additional dollars for each bag. And that's pretty cool!
The bags come from all over the world: potato chip bags from Honduras, straw and coconut from Bali, amazing floral cloth from Guatemala, recycled rice bags from Cambodia, hand dyed prints from India, and quilted, locally grown cotton from Rwanda.
The range of styles is so broad that there is something for everyone to covet. Check out a few of the beautiful bags in the gallery.
