During a recent event for
Corporate EcoForum,
Google's CEO Eric Schmidt
outlined his plan for reducing the U.S.'s dependence on foreign oil, fighting climate change and creating more green jobs for all. You might be wondering why the CEO of a search engine company would concern himself with such matters, but it's simply another example of how this behemoth tech company is changing the way technology interacts with the future of our planet. Schmidt calls for a complete switch-over to green power in "about 20 years", as well as an ambitious push for half of the nation's cars to be replaced with plug-in electric hybrids.
Anyone who has followed Google's business plan recently will know that the company is one of the only big-name players to tackle environmental issues so aggressively. They've committed hundreds of millions of dollars for research and investment into green power such as wind, geothermal and plug-in vehicle start-ups. So since we can't seem to depend on our political leaders for proper environmental change, do we now turn to Google?
