Robert De Niro's restaurant serves up endangered tuna
For those of you who love celebrity eco-scandals, this one's a doozy. Perhaps inspired by the recent fish fraud uncovered by those teenagers in New York, Greenpeace decided to do some investigative work of its own at Nobu, the swank sushi restaurant chain owned in part by Robert De Niro. They found that De Niro's restaurants -- consisting of 21 locations across 4 continents -- are serving unwitting customers endangered bluefin tuna.
Bluefin isn't illegal to serve, however it is listed as critically endangered due to overfishing by the International Union for the Conservation of Nature's Red List. Not only that, but the US has called for a total ban on Atlantic and Mediterranean bluefin -- so, it's not exactly a secret that eating bluefin is a eco-sin. To make matters worse, Nobu's clientele consists of Hollywood elites like the greenwashing queen of pop, and the über-aware Leonardo DiCaprio. Both of whom might have unintentionally enjoyed some endangered tuna. Oops, way to make De Niro look bad.

Ridiculous story:
1. Tuna are not usually called animals; they're fish. "Animals" must be to sensationalize the story.
2. Pacific Bluefin tuna, like the one I caught last week near San Diego, are not endangered.
3. Bluefin are considered to be the highest quality of the many tuna species.
Do your homework before you publish such PETA-like drivel.

You're an idiot and I'd just like you to know that. Listing things may make you seem more credible but I happen to know tuna are a fish and fish are animals... And so are bugs and sponges and birds.. not just mammals, smarty.

I love bluefin tuna. Prepared properly, it actually tastes like a cross between spotted owl and California condor.

I always thought everything tasted like chicken. Rattlesnake, quail, dove, and even some badly cooked steak. But don't forget to use extra virgin olive oil. Now you all have a very filling day.

These wackos tipped their hand when they used the term "eco-sin." Sin is a concept associated with religion, and these lunatics ARE worshiping the Earth. I'll pass on the Earth-worship and eat the tuna.

Just another example of the elitist not practicing what they preach. I'm sick of people telling us to go greener, to use fluorescent lighting, which by the way, contains mercury and HEAVEN FORBID IF YOU BREAK ONE IN YOUR HOUSE the cleanup bill is HAZMAT enormous; to stop using paper product WHICH BY THE WAY IS THE ONLY RENEWABLE RESOURCE IN PACKAGING because Arlo Guthrie says so BUT HE PLAYS A WOODEN GUITAR BUT I GUESS I AM NOT SUPPOSED TO HAVE ONE, and eat only organic vegetables WHICH BY THE WAY ARE GROWN WITH HUMAN WASTE FOR FERTILIZER IN OTHER COUNTRIES, to stop using Alar on fruit trees OH MY GOD NOW MERYL STREEP IS AN ORGANIC CHEMIST EXPERT and Peta telling us not to wear fur BUT MAIL YOU A BODY BAG FOR YOUR DOG IF YOU VISIT THEIR PHONY MAGAZINE ADVERTISEMENT and on and on and on...
Please kill me now before it gets worse. As Sam Kinison used to say, "OOOOOHHHHH! OOOOHHHH! OOOOOOOOOOHHHHHHHHH!

Took the words right out of my mouth. Everyone wants to be popular for being eco-friendly. People should check how much money these companies make off their naive efforts to help accomplish nothing! Al Gore is a phony whom didn't deserve the nobel prize for his cheap documentary using one sided studies that were performed by companies he owns huge amounts of stock in. He owns the company you buy carbon credits from so no matter how you cut it he is making money off of the good deeds of eco-eccentric people. Ill wait for any amount of undeniable evidence that it is actually happening. None of this you cant wait til its too late crap. Our science is too good to spend so much money on something assumed when we could spend it on Cancer or Aids research!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I may be showing my age, but at one point we were taught everything is animal, vegtable or mineral. So tuna is surely an animal!

Gary Nelson...What boat were you on? I went out last week on the Deep Adventure 80, and all we got was Yellow Fin, Albacore and Dorado. In fact I didn't see any BFT on the reports. You must have been WAY south.
BTW...I too love Blue Fin. Last year I got 11. Almost 1000 lbs of fillets!! Pass the wasabi and soy sauce!
