This or That: Gas or electric stovetop?

We had a cold snap in my area recently and I suddenly found myself looking for excuses to bake in the kitchen, which got me to wondering: are gas stoves or electric ones are greener?
Although individual usage habits play a significant role (i.e. "finding excuses" isn't very green of me) all things being equal it seems gas stoves win the toss on the this one -- mainly because they give an instant flame and therefore waste less energy warming up. Not to mention the user has more control over the temperature and, especially in the summer months when the A/C is running, gas stoves cool down quicker.

Don't forget about the newest (or at least newer) technology they are putting in stoves called magnetic induction. They are supposedly up to 50% more efficient than gas or electric.
